"Hey, it's Violet, sorry I missed your call, leave a message!" Finally the ringing had stopped. I had begun to wonder if it was just from the pounding headache in the front of my skull.
It was only moments later before the ring began again and I was forced to swing my hand over to the receiver.
"Hey, dad."
"Oh hello sweetie. I'm so glad you're awake!"
"Haha well I dont have much of a choice when you call the home phone."
"How have you been, how's the weather?"
"Well, I just woke up in a pool of sweat. Combined with the intense humidity I don't think my sheets will ever be dry."'
"Oh Violet, always the pessimism. How's your brother?"
"Who knows. We get along and hangout, but that's about it.
"Typical. Well, i just wanted to call and remind you how much i love you!"
"Love you too dad, talk to you later."
click.
I didn't set out to be a "daddy's girl." Something about my father's voice makes you want it to tell you that it loves you. Maybe it's his sincerity or even his sense of humor, but either way my dad and I have been best friends since as long as I can remember.
However, something that my father's voice cant do is cure a hangover. It was time for my second daily ritual, going back to bed. Good night sun. Or good morning...
Where do you live? Did anything smell funny to you?
ReplyDeleteAre you rich or are your parents rich (the background is money...)?
Good line: "Well, I just woke up in a pool of sweat. Combined with the intense humidity I don't think my sheets will ever be dry." (love the view into your sense of humor!)
You sort of mention that you're a daddy's girl, but your relationship (from certain dialogue and other clues) seems sort of strained. Or is that just the hangover.. Even though you are best friends with your dad, I think something happened to hinder it a little bit.
I can't wait to find out what the secrets to your character are!
Yeah, like ^ said, where do you live?
ReplyDeleteI'm slightly confused about the last line - how can it be your second daily ritual? It just made it seem like you only have three things to do everyday: to wake up at eight, get drunk, and go back to sleep. What else does Violet do? Why is your background money? Is she rich and is that why she doesn't work? Also, why does Violet HAVE to get up at eight?
I'm curious about your relationship with your brother. What happened there? And what's Violet's mom like? I feel like Violet's family is a central part in the blog, but the only person we know anything about is her loving father. Also, if she loves her dad so much, why did she move away when she turned 18?
I like the line that Violet says to her dad on the phone - it's very descriptive and tells me that Violet is maybe a little sarcastic. :)
I feel like I really got to know the complexity of Violet. She seems to be a little embarrassed by her father but still really loves him. The fact that she recently moved away, although it's stated in the beginning, is also evident in how often it sounds like he calls her. Are her parents even more involved in her life than just phone calls? Where is the rest of her family- it mentions that she has a brother. Looking forward to reading more about why Violet always has hangovers and what she's doing in town.
